I am Verrol Blake, a corporate events and street photographer inspired by nature, people, everyday life and the power of photography to tell a story. I am continually growing as a photographer and draws inspiration from local and international photographers. I started taking photographs as a teenager, influenced by my brother and shot my first wedding at eighteen. However, I had set it aside for many years however, I was convinced by my daughter to pursue it seriously. To prepare myself, I sought and received training in Still Photography at the Media Technology Institute.
In 2017 I was the recipient of the Jamaica Information Service (JIS) award for outstanding performance in the Heritage photo competition and an honourable mention certificate from the judges. I have had photographs published in the print media, the Bank of Jamaica annual reports and its website as well as social media platforms. I am drawn to the element of uncertainty, and spontaneity attendant to events and street photography. And while I do not have a definite style, I have a preference for minimal editing and natural light.
My aspiration is to teach photography to young people in government institutions and to publish a book on Jamaica street scenes.
